“from switzerland to gwada-da, from jamaica to america… ”
Cali P ist vor 23 Jahren als Sohn schweizer Mutter und Vater aus Guadeloupe (Gwada) geboren. Er wuchs in Zürich auf, lebt
hier nach Rastafari-Tradition und weiss, dass es ihn immer wieder in die Antillen und nach Afrika zieht. Dies erlaubt ihm eine Brücke zwischen Erst- und Drittwelt-Kulturen zu schlagen und als schweizer Musiker weltweit echte karibische Vibes zu
verbreiten.
Die Musik hatte sein Leben schon immer stark beeinflusst. Sein Vater ist Mitglied der Perkussions-Band “Akiyo” und so begann Cali P schon als Drei-Jähriger mit Schlagzeugspielen. Dabei liess er sich von Reggae, Dancehall über Soul, Jazz, Rock bis
sogar zu Pop Musik hin inspirieren. Mit 14 fing er an auch Texte zu schreiben und ab dem Jahre 2000 sorgte er als MC des “Gideon Soldiers”-Soundsystems erstmals für Aufmerksamkeit in der Schweiz und Mitteleuropa.
So startete Cali P seine Karriere und überzeugte gleich vom Beginn weg. Schnell wurde er zu einem bekannten Gesicht in den schweizer Dancehalls und zum Hoffnungsträger der Schweizer Reggae-Szene. Die schöne Stimme, das Talent gute Songs zu schreiben, und die Sicherheit auf der Bühne, lassen schnell auf mehr hoffen.
Bald folgten internationale Auftritte quer durch Europa von Schweden nach Ibiza und Cali P begeisterte tausende Leute an nun beinahe 200 Konzerten. Highlights sind die Auftritte am Summerjam (D), Rototom Sunsplash (I), im Zénith (Paris) und am Finale der ESPN Winter-XGames 2008 in Aspen, Colorado (U.S.) mit jeweils mehr als 40’000 Besuchern. Er hatte das Privileg auch in Afrika und seiner Heimat Guadeloupe aufzutreten und mit seinem unverkennbaren Stil und der Energie auf der Bühne seine Fangemeinde auszuweiten.
Seit 2004 spielt Cali P regelmässig mit Live-Band wie “The Scrucialists” (CH), “Soul Fire” (D), “House Of Riddim” (A) oder “Roots Harmonics” (DK). Sein Talent, jede Halle zum Kochen zu bringen, garantiert aber auch mit DJ-Begleitung eine aussergewöhnliche Show, welche niemand mehr vergisst. Seine erste Single “Forward” erschien 2005 unter dem kölner Label Pow Pow, welche auch für Gentleman u.a. den Hit “Superior” produzierten. Dieser Song erhielt die Aufmersamkeit der internationalen Szenen-Presse und schaffte es sogar in die schweizer Radio-Stationen (u.a. VIRUS, Couleur3), was ihm den nötigen Rückenwind gab weiter “Vorwärts” zu schreiten. Mehr als 30 weitere, international veröffentlichte Singles, Featurings und Compilation-Beiträge folgten; inklusive dem Soundtrack des 2007 erschienenen Freeski-DVD “IDEA”, der ihn in der Ski- und Snowboardszene der USA und Kanada bekannt machte.
Nun erscheint sein langerwartetes Debut Album “Lyrical Faya” am 2.5.2008 auf Pow Pow Productions. Die erste Single-Auskopplung ist der wunderschöne und live eingespielte Lovers-Song “Keep in touch” und handelt von der Liebe auf Distanz, wenn man am anderen Ende der Welt ist und sich trotzdem so nah fühlt, wie sonst niemandem. Passend dazu wurde in
Nordamerika, fern von der Liebe in der Schweiz, der Videoclip gedreht.
Cali P ist ein bewusster Rasta Youth mit einer aufrichtigen und positiven Message, nach welcher er selbst auch lebt. Wer ihn persönlich trifft spührt die gute Energie und natürliche Bescheidenheit die er ausstrahlt. Ob er die Bühne zusammen mit einer Live-Band oder mit DJ Black Phantom rockt - Cali P ist ohne Zweifel eine Sensation der neuen Reggae-Dancehall Szene.

Reggae sensation Cali P was born 1985 as the son of a Swiss mother and a father from the Caribbean island Guadeloupe (Gwada), who’s an inspired musician from the percussion-group “Akiyo”. Being raised in Switzerland, living the Rastafarian traditions and knowing his heart belongs to Africa; allow him to bridge the gap between firstand third world cultures.
Music had a strong and powerful influence in his life from the very beginning, so Cali P began playing drums at the young age of three. He found his musical inspiration from throughout the vast genres of Reggae, Dancehall, Soul, Jazz, Rock and even from a splash of Pop music. As well as displaying outstanding drumming skills, he began writing lyrics at the age of 14. He kicked off his Dancehall career as MC of the “Gideon Soldiers” soundsystem in the year 2000.
He began appearing throughout Switzerland’s dancehalls, easily winning over the Swiss crowds with his unique confidence and vibrant energy on stage. A winning combination of unmistakable and beautiful vocal talent, a superb lyrical content and an engaging self-esteem, he charms all his audience. Cali P is an artist who – once you’ve seen him perform live - is truly believed and never forgotten! Soon his international career started taking off and he continued satisfying thousands of people across Europe in up to 200 shows, such as Summerjam (D), Rototom Sunsplash (I) and Zénith (Paris) each with capacity of 40,000 people or more. Cali P has performed at the ESPN Winter-XGames 2008 in Aspen, Colorado (U.S.). He has also been privileged to grace Africa and the place of his birth, Guadeloupe. Spreading his message with his spirituality floating lyrics and sensational vocals.
Since 2004 Cali P performs regularly with live backing bands such as “Soul Fire” (D), “Roots Harmonics” (DK), “The Scrucialists” (CH) and “House of Riddim” (A). But his strong stage appearance also guarantees an exciting night, when he rocks it alongside various Soundsystems. His first single “Forward” was released in February 2005 on the Pow Pow Productions label, which produced also for Gentleman hits like “Superior”. This song gets international attention followed by more than 30 other songs on 7inch productions or compilations including the soundtrack for the american Freeski-DVD (2007) called “IDEA”, with over 20’000 sales. The success of these works provided him with a solid foundation to build on and the
strength for his mission.
There is a lot more to come from this progressive artist, as he will release his debut album „Lyrical Faya“ on May 2nd in 2008. The first single is the wonderful and live recorded song “Keep in touch” and talks about love over distance. When you feel close to somebody who is so far.
